A CALL FOR A GENERAL BAN ON THE USE OF FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGIES IN PUBLIC SECURITY

The entities and people who subscribe to this letter call for a general ban of Facial Recognition Technologies in the Brazilian Public Security field, given the evidence of their abusive and non-transparent use. The ability to individually identify and track people undermines rights such as privacy, data protection, freedom of expression and assembly, equality and non-discrimination.

We also demand that private actors refuse to encourage the implementation of this type of project by public authorities. Lastly, we ask institutions working to defend constitutional rights, such as the Public Defender and Prosecutor’s Offices, to mobilize in the pursuit of banning the use of Facial Recognition for Public Security purposes.
